Review For Movie Saving Lincoln
The film feels like an animated Wikipedia page, just sort of running through the greatest hits of Lincoln's life in office - the Emancipation Proclamation! Gettysburg! The Theater! - without any real insight.
Mark Olsen-Los Angeles Times

Note to filmmakers: Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should do it.
Neil Genzlinger-New York Times

Comes off like a View-Master version of a tale already told.
Joe Neumaier-New York Daily News

Litvak's shoestring production sketches in episodes from Lincoln's entire administration, including a strange "Dixie'' singalong on the White House steps to mark the end of the war.
Lou Lumenick-New York Post

The script, while largely historically accurate, is undermined by stilted dialogue, and the pic is laced with ill-fitting parts that wind up literally all over the matte.
Bill Edelstein-Variety

Imagine the stiffness of a Star Wars prequel but without the bravura technique.
Alan Scherstuhl-Village Voice

An ancillary curio about the man and his struggles, at least for history buffs, and an unusual exception to an old screenwriting rule -- a movie whose framing device benefits it much more than its actual execution.
Brent Simon-Shockya.com

The innovative look. . .of thrusting actors directly into archival photographs, . .the primary reason to see the film, is particularly striking. . .as visual authenticity.
Nora Lee Mandel-Film-Forward.com

A bold visual feat undermined by an overstuffed, cold and shallow screenplay and awkward theatrical performances.
Avi Offer-NYC Movie Guru

The film suggests a way modestly budgeted movies can approach historical epochs and figures in a provocative and arresting manner.
Kirk Honeycutt-honeycuttshollywood.com

Under even the best of circumstances, Saving Lincoln would have to inevitably face the scrutiny of potential redundancy.
Ed Gonzalez-Slant Magazine

This simulated, caricatured curiosity is another Lincoln log that's recommended primarily for history-buffs.
Susan Granger-SSG Syndicate

Film about Abraham Lincoln and his "best friend" and bodyguard is weakened by a bare-bones script, but greatly strengthened by the director's invention of a visual technique that even Steven Spielberg might envy.
Shirley Sealy-Film Journal International

Like a movie-watching day in class that makes you miss the thrilling rhetoric of a lecture.
Matt Pais-RedEye

A fresh take on The Great Emancipator from the point-of-view of a trusted companion who had been at the President's side at Gettysburg and for many historical moments but not on the day he died.

Taken
Review For Movie Taken 2
A sloppy, lazy, unintentionally laughable sequel.
Richard Roeper-Richard Roeper.com

A meta-American movie, a Godardian spoof of the whole genre, an attempt to see how stupid and insulting a motion picture can be and still be a big hit.
Andrew O'Hehir-Salon.com

Taken 2 is more of the same, except a little bigger, a little dumber, and a little less invigorating.
James Berardinelli-ReelViews

So lazily put together that it relies on flashbacks from its predecessor for the majority of its character development.
Dana Stevens-Slate

Neeson, despite having turned 60 in June, looks spritely enough in the role, and more than capable of another go-round should Taken 2 match its predecessor's success.
Charles Gant-Variety

As much as this picture is action driven, its greatest delights are grounded in personality, in the fun of having a protagonist who combines homespun values with velociraptor functionality.
Mick LaSalle-San Francisco Chronicle

The follow-up has less action, less energy, less Liam Neeson awesomeness - in other words less of everything that people liked about the first one.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

I surrender! I simply cannot absorb another fist, bullet or knife thrust into my atrophying brain by a hyperventilating Liam Neeson in the name of his stupid, twitty movie daughter, Kim.
Al Alexander-The Patriot Ledger

"Taken 2" is really, really goofy -- it's even goofier because it thinks it's about the futility of vengeance -- but Liam Neeson almost makes you buy it.
Tim Grierson-Deadspin

Taken 2 is content to play out as a familiar and lesser version of its predecessor.
Mark Pfeiffer-Reel Times: Reflections on Cinema

Good action. Neeson rocks as the death-dealing American ex-spy. What else do you need? Maybe "Taken 3″ isn't such a bad idea.
Paul Chambers-Movie Chambers

Taken 2 is a pointless sequel that tries to capitalize on everything that worked in the first film, without actually including any of it.
Jeremy Lebens-We Got This Covered

This is a halfway decent action film, but I do hope if they make another sequel of this, they make a better one.
Robert Roten-Laramie Movie Scope

More is definitely less in this sequel.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

Yeah, 'Taken 2' is pretty much the same movie that 'Taken' was. Like its predecessor, it's preposterous and over-the-top. And, boy, is this actioner ever just plain fun.
Linda Cook-Quad City Times (Davenport, IA)

If there were any justice in the world, this would be the movie inspiring mass riots. It's that bad.
Rebecca Cusey-Patheos

On the evidence of this cheesy sequel, Neeson is in danger of becoming the new Steven Seagal.
Andy Lea-Daily Star

Despite some pretty silly plot holes, this is a relatively entertaining hour and a half.
Tony Medley-Tolucan Times

If you lie with dogs, you get fleas; if you go to Europe with Liam Neeson, you get kidnapped.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

... less credible, less suspenseful and less satisfying than it was before.
Jim Lane-Sacramento News & Review

Unfortunately -- and somewhat embarrassingly for the human race -- there appears to be a sizable market for movies as blitheringly idiotic as this.
Ken Hanke-Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)

Like American filmmakers, it seems the French don't know when to quit, either.
Dan Lybarger-KC Active

There's an endless car chase that somehow manages to run 100 minutes in a 90-minute movie. Unless my math is way off, in which case it just felt that way.
Matt Brunson-Creative Loafing

Hard-luck bodyguard Liam Neeson is back in action, this time tracking down his abducted wife in Istanbul in an efficient sequel to the hit Taken.
Daniel Eagan-Film Journal International

Still delivers what the fans want to see: Liam Neeson being a total badass.

Sightseers
Review For Movie Sightseers
It's not a perfect blend, but Ben Wheatley's film is different enough - on second thought, let's just call it what it is: weird - to warrant your attention. Your admiration, even.
Bill Goodykoontz-Arizona Republic

A British black comedy made in the spirit of "let's run with this demented premise till the tank is empty."
Walter V. Addiego-Hearst Newspapers

It's just not quite funny enough.
Rick Groen-Globe and Mail

With a wink and a shrug, Sightseers shows us evil in all its banality.
Bruce Demara-Toronto Star

A brilliant, deliciously wicked, and thoroughly enjoyable road film ...
Tirdad Derakhshani-Philadelphia Inquirer

Darkly funny as it is, the movie has undercurrents of genuine and very British weirdness.
Ty Burr-Boston Globe

An undeniable treat for lovers of morbid comedy.
Jason Buchanan-TV Guide's Movie Guide

It's definitely not for everyone, but if you can stand the stink of the human condition, Sightseers will linger in the lobes of your imagination long enough to make you laugh.
Katherine Monk-Canada.com

Would make an apt double feature with director Bobcat Goldthwait's recent 'God Bless America,' a similar road trip-as-murder rampage comedy in which people with bad taste and annnoying habits are targeted for 'deserved' extinction.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Sightseers is a brilliantly grim and reasonably amusing comedy that is also wonderfully unpredictable and constantly pushing unforeseen circumstances.
Chris Sawin-Examiner.com

pitch-black and funny, nearly as dismal as Kill List but played for laughs rather than horror.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

Daft and darkly hilarious, but bleak? Oh yes. Almost too bleak.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service

It's usually difficult to find serial killers who are sympathetic and even charming, but this amusing dark comedy does just that without sacrificing its moral compass.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

A quick, dry, acidic comedy that will appeal to anyone who likes horror movies or pitch-black humor.
Scott Weinberg-FEARnet

Welcome to My Camp
Jean Lowerison-ReviewExpress.com

One of the funniest, and bleakest, comedies of the season.
Kelly Vance-East Bay Express

What starts out as a sunny, funny getaway soon turns hilariously dark, a fusion of tabloid sensationalism and social satire ... a royal hoot, the funniest British import since 'Shaun of the Dead.'
Glenn Lovell-CinemaDope

Bloody good camping trip tale
James Verniere-Boston Herald

It's funny and dark, but it's also unconventionally insightful and full of heart - or at least the hearts that are left beating.
Al Alexander-The Patriot Ledger

On the cusp of inheriting his father's estate, Swanson (Tim Heidecker, "Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!") is a man with unlimited options. An aging hipster in Brooklyn, he spends his days in aimless recreation with like-minded friends ("Tim & Eric" co-star Eric Wareheim, LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy and comedian Gregg Turkington a.k.a."Neil Hamburger") in games of comic irreverence and mock sincerity. As Swanson grows restless of the safety a sheltered life offers him, he tests the limits of acceptable behavior, pushing the envelope in every way he can. Heidecker's deadpan delivery cleverly masks a deep desire for connection and sense in the modern world. The Comedy wears its name on its sleeve, but director Rick Alverson's powerful and provocative character study touches a darkness behind the humor that resonates with viewers long after the story ends.

The
Review For Movie The Comedy
The longest and dreariest 94 minutes I've spent on a movie this year.
Moira MacDonald-Seattle Times

None of this is necessarily funny. That's the extent of the irony here.
Wesley Morris-Boston Globe

The joke, I guess, is that there's nothing funny about "The Comedy."
Barbara VanDenburgh-Arizona Republic

A mean-spirited piece of mumblecore that tries to provoke you, but only succeeds in boring you.
David Lewis-San Francisco Chronicle

A character study that tries to make the revolting compelling.
Kyle Smith-New York Post

If you can discern any critical distance or interesting perspective here, or even a good reason to spend 90 minutes in such company, I'm afraid the joke is on you.
A.O. Scott-New York Times

While this could have been the perfect portrait of a certain kind of idiot, the baroque cruelties and tonal monotony go too far.
Nicolas Rapold-Film Comment Magazine

An essential portrait of a generation of people laughing so hard that they've forgotten the joke is on them.
David Ehrlich-Boxoffice Magazine

This is a lacerating portrait of the sort of narcissistic self-loathing that has kept educated, economically comfortable young people from achieving their true potential, from Benjamin Braddock to Hannah Horvath.
Marc Mohan-Oregonian

Champions what it appears to mock and indicts what it appears to glorify.
Michael Nordine-Willamette Week

[A] relentlessly aimless, abrasive stab at black humor.
Gerald Peary-Boston Phoenix

All this is credible enough until Swanson exits the airtight bubble of his peers to bully New York City at large.
Leah Churner-Austin Chronicle

Pushing the boundaries of taste isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the film is so busy daring its audience to hurl insults that it forgets to simply be funny.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

A billion times better than Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie.
Matt Pais-RedEye

It's a long, painful sit that claws at interpretational ambition, but only nails the rare moment of enlightenment, wasting 90 minutes of screentime to acquire about 15 minutes worth of substance.
Brian Orndorf-Blu-ray.com

The Comedy may not aspire to be the portrait of a generation, but it certainly offers a scary dissection of a faux-careless Brooklynite sensibility that threatens to be the undoing of everyone involved.
Ted Scheinman-Paste Magazine

An unconventional, unapologetic comedy that's unbelievably entertaining.
Chase Whale-We Got This Covered

Movie Overview For The Comedy

Indifferent even to the prospects of inheriting his father’s estate, Swanson has been insulated his whole life by the bubble of privilege. He and his hipster friends live in a tepid social paradise, a.k.a. Williamsburg, where their good fortune breeds indifference and recreational cruelty. They pacify their discontent with games of mock sincerity and irreverence, as though humor itself were dying and had nothing left to do but turn on itself. Testing limits to break through their numbness, they act out like spoiled children â€" with ironic beards and beer bellies.

Iron
Review For Movie Iron Man 3
The trouble is that, as the plot quickens, any cleverness withdraws, to make way for the firecrackers of the climax. That is not Black's forte, and his movie duly slumps into a mess.
Anthony Lane-New Yorker

Shane Black excels at writing witty, self-referential, pop-infused banter, and there is no actor working today who is better suited to delivering it than Robert Downey Jr.
Christopher Orr-The Atlantic

Iron Man 3 feels like an exploitative mulching of present-day anxieties. The script is ambitious but not wise enough to be rightfully cathartic. It's more Cuisinart than art.
Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post

The action, directed by Shane Black, ranges from passable to interminable.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

Black is good at giving his heroes a morbid, self-hating edge and even better at coming up with hateable villains.
David Edelstein-Vulture

After a while, the steady diet of tongue-in-cheek starts to taste monotonous as day-old gum.
Liam Lacey-Globe and Mail

Funnier and smoother, more surprising, defter at being creative while still working within the confines of the superhero formula.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

It's Iron Man 3's sneaky exposé of superhero cool--on the outside, a wisecracking warrior; on the inside, an anxiety-attacked guy who tries to insulate himself with arrogance--that brings this blockbuster down to sympathetic size.
Brian Gibson-Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Canada)

There's little doubt that Iron Man Three, in its early stages, fares a whole lot better than one might've anticipated...
David Nusair-Reel Film Reviews

A generous step up from its predecessor, the various twists aren't exactly as expected, but you'll still have fun getting there.
Wesley Lovell-Cinema Sight

Packed with virtually non-stop action from start to finish, "Iron Man 3" is the best film in the "Iron Man" series and among the best Marvel-inspired films ever
Michael A. Smith-MediaMikes

Features an interesting, angst-ridden psychological sub-text rarely found in blockbuster films.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

This may be the lightest, most entertaining cinematic exploration of post-traumatic stress disorder yet.
John Serba-MLive.com

The finale is explosive, but Iron Man has some rusty patches too
Robert Denerstein-Movie Habit

The way Black surrenders the movie's edginess to the generic onslaught of flashy visuals is a mild disappointment.
Sean Means-Salt Lake Tribune

A regression in the usual strong work from Marvel Studios, Iron Man 3 suffers from director Shane Black's mishandling of this popular superhero character.
Matthew Pejkovic-Matt's Movie Reviews

The elements that were once daring are starting to feel statistically approved - and tired.
Margot Harrison-Seven Days

Terrorist and anxiety attacks prove equally dismaying to Marvel's 'man in a can' in this witty, satisfying sequel.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Iron Hot with action
Diana Saenger-ReviewExpress.com

... best Iron Man yet thanks to Shane Black, who pushes characterization, clever plot twists, not computer effects ... Downey, for a change, drops his guard, shows the heart beneath the armor
Glenn Lovell-CinemaDope

It's the funniest superhero film, and it doesn't feel like it's pandering. That's the power of Downey, Jr. and now Shane Black.
Jeff Bayer-The Scorecard Review

A palatable entertainment... rests on the strength of the principals
Rubin Safaya-Cinemalogue.com

Are you sick of superheroes? No, of course you are not, cinema audiences are lapping up any caped crusader movies. But I am, especially when Tony Stark is an angst ridden shambles suffering from performance anxiety. What's so super about that?
Brian Henry Martin-UTV

Yeah...it's good.
Bob Grimm-Reno News and Review

We can trust in Tony Stark, even when he's falling apart and can't trust himself.
Michael Smith-Tulsa World

For anyone familiar with Shane Black's work, it's not long before a strong case of deja vu sets in.

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.. -- (C) Warner Bros.

The
Review For Movie The Dark Knight Rises
The story is dense, overlong, and studded with references that will make sense only to those intimate with Nolan's previous excursions into Batmanhood.
Anthony Lane-New Yorker

There was an opportunity here for Nolan to show us another way, to (again) stretch the boundaries of what is possible in a superhero film. Instead, alas, the latter half of The Dark Knight Rises retreats toward conventionality.
Christopher Orr-The Atlantic

I'm not arguing that Rises should be Singin' in the Rain. But its Wagnerian ambitions are not matched by its material. It hasn't earned its darkness.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

The biggest surprise may just be how satisfying Nolan has made his farewell to a Dark Knight trilogy that many fans will wish he'd extend to a 10-part series, at least.
Bob Mondello-NPR

Others will see it differently, but for me this is a disappointingly clunky and bombastic conclusion to a superior series -- Nolan's biggest and worst movie to date.
Tom Charity-CNN.com

The director and cowriter/brother Jonathan Nolan pay heed to Wayne's wounded emotional arc. And the film is a feat of painstakingly crafted closure.
Lisa Kennedy-Denver Post

Caps off the trilogy with passion and dignity, if not always with slam-bang entertainment. Whoever directs the reboot in five years will have a lot to live up to.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

The movie's two hours and 44 minutes long but never drags, and it has at least five separate action set pieces that will drop your jaw, particularly if you see it in IMAX.
Will Leitch-Deadspin

The Dark Knight Rises captures the spirit -- and cultural anxieties -- of the times.
Scott Foundas-Film Comment Magazine

The final installment in Christopher Nolan's pitch-black trilogy manages to be both relevant and topical while slavishly adhering to the stodgy tropes of the genre.
Al Alexander-The Patriot Ledger

Gloom never looked as good as it does in the mesmerizing "The Dark Knight Rises."
Carla Meyer-Sacramento Bee

Even with its flaws, The Dark Knight Rises is a solid film. It just fails to live up to the magnificent legacy created by the first two movies in the trilogy. To be fair, they were incredibly hard acts to follow.
Rick Bentley-Fresno Bee

Every facet of this impressive piece reaffirms the same thematic gristle as it forces the viewer to chew on the notion of personal responsibility.
Katherine Monk-Canada.com

The Dark Knight Rises is all about risks, and there are payoffs and failures to go with it.
Kirk Baird-Toledo Blade

This is a solid film, taking itself seriously and asking that we do the same.
Chris Knight-National Post

An ambitious, honourable and satisfying conclusion to this genre-defining trilogy.
Tom Glasson-Concrete Playground

The Dark Knight Rises directly counters the arguments made against The Dark Knight. Maybe, sometimes, it is better to leave the demons unvanquished.
Jordan Hiller-Bangitout.com

Technically, The Dark Knight Rises is a thick leatherbound volume with gilded pages, though flipping through it yields a story about a big bad bald man doing eeevil things until a vigilante with pointy ears comes to the rescue.
Rob Gonsalves-eFilmCritic.com

Weighed down by portentousness and momentousness. The overall story remains a bit muddled. A better trilogy-capper than a movie in its own right.
Brian Gibson-Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Canada)

There's plenty of action, intrigue, special effects, and high-tech gadgets to maintain our attention at least in spurts.
John J. Puccio-Movie Metropolis

There's enough that works in The Dark Knight Rises that I can overlook most of the more glaring flaws, but it remains to date the most disappointing film I've seen from 2012.
Rob Humanick-Projection Booth

Nolan keeps things dark and dangerous
Robert Denerstein-Movie Habit

Doubtless flawed and arguably overlong, it's nonetheless a personal and heartfelt ode from the director to the greatest comic-book character ever committed to paper -- and now film.
Ali Gray-TheShiznit.co.uk

Nolan's finale isn't perfect, and may not be the greatest installment of the trilogy, but it solidifies this three-part tale of the Batman legend as one of the best ever told.
Kofi Outlaw-ScreenRant

... if Gotham falls, so does Bruce Wayne. Rarely, in film, have we understood and sympathised with a hero's mission as much as Bruce's.
Adam Ross-The Aristocrat

The Dark Knight Rises succeeds in surpassing 2008's 'The Dark Knight' to become the best of his three films. Whether that will be enough to secure his Best Picture Oscar is frankly irrelevant - because what matters is that this is Batman's best picture.
Patrick Kolan-Shotgun Critic
